On going: Campaign for the globalization of the Istanbul Convention: #1in10neveragain
14-24 March 2016: Commission on the Status of Women (60th CSW) at the United Nations in New York; an INLW delegation will participate. INLW has submitted a written Statement.
INLW will co-organize a side event on Monday 14th March and on Tuesday 22nd March, focusing on preventing and fighting violation against women.
20-22 May 2016: Executive Commission of Liberal International in Tiblisi, Georgia: INLW as a member of LI will participate with a delegation. INLW will hopefully be able to organize an INLW panel discussion.
Time flies, but we have not been sitting still! A short resume of what happened this year so far.
As you may remember we submitted a resolution at the last LI Congress in Rotterdam in April 2014 on this subject which was unanimously adopted. Liberal International and INLW as you see have now joined forces in a joint campaign to achieve this eventual globalization of the Istanbul Convention.
Our main plans for autumn 2015 are:
Taking part at the 60th Liberal International Congress in Mexico City from Thursday 29th October till 1st of November with an INLW delegation. We plan to pick up the second phase of the joint campaign together with LI on the ratification and globalization of the Istanbul Convention.
As prescribed in our Constitution we are to hold our next General Meeting of INLW during the LI Congress in Mexico City, which is held from 29th of October till November 1st. This will be rather inconvenient for our members to come in big numbers, as we do not have a great number of members at the moment in Latin or Middle America. At this General meeting there will have to be some changes to the Board due to terms of office expiring and members being re-elected for their next term of office. Exact time and place will be communicated when the LI program is definite.
We also plan to continue our campaign there and hold a fringe meeting on the subject of stopping violence against women and girls and domestic violence. Also INLW tabled 3 resolutions to the LI Congress in Mexico: Deterioration instead of improvement of Women’s rights in Russia; INLW launch Istanbul Convention Campaign and Insecurity and Climate Change two vast Challenges for Women in Africa.
INLW organizes Meet and Greet Drinks on Tuesday 23rd April 8.30 pm at Café Restaurant Floor, Rotterdam.
MEET AND GREET DRINKS for Liberal International Congress participants and INLW and Womens Network of VVD. Dutch liberals want to meet the members of the Liberal International family and vice versa. So after the harbor tour, come and join us all for drinks in Restaurant Floor. If you feel like dinner by that time you will able to get some dinner at this restaurant at that time as well.
INLW Participation
INLW will participate with a number of her members in this LI Congress. The theme of the congress is “Enhancing Global Trade”. Therefore we chose to follow the theme at our Fringe Meeting which we will be able to hold on Saturday 26th April at 9 am in the Doelen, the congress venue . The theme of this INLW “Morning Debate on Global Trade and Women”. Different aspects will be covered and we hope to have a good discussion using predetermined statements.

- Hakima el Haiti, Minister of Environment, Marocco MP party (to be confirmed),

INLW organiseert “MEET and GREET Drinks” op donderdagavond 24 april om 20.30 uur in Café Restaurant Floor, Schouwburgplein 28 te Rotterdam. Restaurant Floor ligt naast de Doelen, onder één dak met de Schouwburg en op loopafstand van station Rotterdam Centraal. Dit ter gelegenheid van het Liberal International Congress (LI congress), dat van donderdag 24 tot zondag 27 april 2014 gehouden wordt in de Doelen te Rotterdam. INLW, waar het Liberaal Vrouwen Netwerk en enkele LVNers individueel lid van zijn, wil op deze “Meet and Greet netwerkborrel“ de mogelijkheid bieden, dat de Nederlandse LVNers en de internationale liberale conferentiedeelnemers elkaar kunnen ontmoeten. Maak gebruik van deze kans! De LI delegate members komen uit de hele wereld voor dit congres naar Rotterdam. De laatste keer dat LI in Nederland een congres hield was in 1996 in Noordwijk. Aangezien het congres zelf alléén toegankelijk is voor de delegates is deze borrel de enige mogelijkheid om VVDers iets van het LI congres te laten meemaken! Wij, LVN stuurgroep en INLW bestuur, vinden het ook belangrijk dat de liberalen uit de wereld als zij nu Nederland aandoen de mogelijkheid krijgen VVDers te ontmoeten en te spreken!
Ook al is het iets kortdag, kom met z’n allen deze Liberalen welkom heten in onze Liberale kring! Het is zeker handig voor de organisatie als je laat weten of je denkt te komen!

INLW houdt op donderdag 24 april, 14.00-15.00 uur haar General Meeting in het Manhattan Hotel in Rotterdam, Board Room. Leden van INLW zijn van harte welkom deze huishoudelijke vergadering bij te wonen.
On behalf of the Board of International Network of Liberal Women we would like to inform you about some of the last events that INLW has participated in.
INLW was represented with a delegation at the 58th Commission on the Status of Women at the UN held from 10th till 22nd of March in New York. The theme of this year’s CSW was “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls”. See under ECOSOC for more information on our written Statement on the importance of including human rights in primary education. Our delegation consisted of Margaret de Vos van Steenwijk, president of INLW, Christine de Saint Genois and May Sing Yang both vice Presidents of INLW.
We were present with a delegation at the Executive Meeting of Liberal International held in Antigua, Guatemala between 18th and 20th of October 2013. INLW was represented there by amongst others Margaret de Vos van Steenwijk and Soesila Verhagen, member of the Board of INLW.
