The first INLW Board Meeting since the Mexico GM with many new Board members took place in Barcelona from 8-11 April 2016.
On Friday the Barcelona Liberal women (Dones LiD) and INLW organized an event on “the Empowerment of Women for sustainable development, The new agenda of the United Nations” in the beautiful building Palau Macaya.
It was an inspiring evening with (fltr photo above) Leticia Gutierrez, Patricia Olamendi, Joaquima Alemany, Margaret de Vos van Steenwijk as speakers as well as a representative from Club XXI siècle in France.

As I mentioned in my last letter, we were present at the 60th Liberal International Congress in Mexico City, where we held our INLW General Meeting.
During this meeting some new members of our Board were installed.
Our new Board consists of:

During this year’s UN CSW (Commission on the Status of Women) in New York between 13th – 24th of March 2016 the International Network of Liberal Women participated in several side-events and also organised 2 events.
Together with LI, UNWatch the event on March 14th discussed the challenges which remain to promote and advance women’s rights globally and ending Violence against Women and Girls.
Our INLW vice-president Khadija El Morabit, Mu Sochua, MP of the Cambodian Parliament, President of the Women’s Caucus of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats; Susan Tahmasebi, Iranian women’s rights activist and Nohemy Johnson-Hincapie, Student at Principia College participated in this event. Khadija El Morabit gave voice to the MENA perspective of violence against Women and Girls. As Liberals our message has always been that violence against women must stop.

14-24 March 2016: Commission on the Status of Women (60th CSW) at the United Nations in New York; an INLW delegation will participate. INLW has submitted a written Statement.
INLW will co-organize a side event on Monday 14th March and on Tuesday 22nd March, focusing on preventing and fighting violation against women.
20-22 May 2016: Executive Commission of Liberal International in Tiblisi, Georgia: INLW as a member of LI will participate with a delegation. INLW will hopefully be able to organize an INLW panel discussion.
After the General Meeting on 29th October 2015 INLW held a public panel discussion on:
“Violence against women is a world wide disgrace: Will globalizing the Istanbul Convention be the remedy?”
After an introduction by Margaret de Vos van Steenwijk who explained that INLW together with Liberal International are campaigning to globalize the Istanbul Convention. This is the most comprehensive international legally binding instrument on violence against women and girls and domestic violence. It is open for member nations but also nations outside the Council of Europe. We aim to encourage liberal leaders and parliamentarians across Europe and the larger global community to lend their support and positions of power to globalizing this Convention. The social media campaign will be led by #1in10neveragain. This refers to the fact that more than 1 in 10 girls worldwide have experienced forced sexual activity.
On October 29th 2015 INLW held its General Meeting in Hotel Royal Pedregal in Mexico City. The Board of INLW had got together there because Liberal International was holding its 60th congress there. INLW’s Constitution stipulates that INLW holds it’s General Meeting in conjunction of the LI Congress.
